  • Level
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Reciprocating saw or circular saw
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Shims
  • Caulk gun
  • Caulk

Step 1: Remove the old door

  1. Start by removing the hinges from the old door. To do this, use a screwdriver to remove the screws that are holding the hinges in place.
  2. Once the hinges are removed, you can lift the old door up and out of the frame.

Step 2: Prepare the door frame

  1. Before installing the new door, you need to prepare the door frame. This involves removing any old caulk or weatherstripping from the frame.
  2. You also need to make sure that the frame is level. To do this, use a level to check the frame in both the horizontal and vertical directions.
  3. If the frame is not level, you can use shims to level it out.

Step 3: Position the new door

  1. Once the door frame is prepared, you can position the new door in the frame.
  2. To do this, lift the door up and into the frame, making sure that the top of the door is aligned with the top of the frame.
  3. Once the door is in place, use a level to check the door in both the horizontal and vertical directions.
  4. If the door is not level, you can use shims to level it out.

Step 4: Secure the new door

  1. Once the door is level, you can secure it to the frame using screws.
  2. To do this, drill pilot holes through the door frame into the studs. Then, drive the screws into the pilot holes.
  3. Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the door frame.

Step 5: Install the hinges

  1. Once the door is secured, you can install the hinges.
  2. To do this, position the hinges on the door and frame, making sure that the pins are aligned.
  3. Then, use a screwdriver to drive the screws into the hinges.

Step 6: Caulk the door

  1. Once the hinges are installed, you can caulk the door.
  2. To do this, apply a bead of caulk around the edges of the door frame.
  3. Then, use a caulk gun to smooth out the caulk.

Step 7: Install the hardware

  1. Once the caulk is dry, you can install the hardware.
  2. This includes the doorknob, deadbolt, and any other hardware that you want to install.
  3. To install the hardware, follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Congratulations! You have now successfully replaced your interior prehung door.
